Mahi, leave Badri alone.

On second thoughts, don’t. Stand by him, back him, embrace him. Like you embraced Yuvraj Singh, RP Singh, Harbhajan Singh. What’s the problem? Is he too far South for you? Think about it Mahi, India has embraced you, from the heartland down to the South - you are the CSK skipper, and their icon, aren’t you? How will it be to back a boy from far down South for a change – like you back Suresh Raina, Praveen Kumar, Rohit Sharma. How tough is it to bat Badri in one slot, and not in every position of the Cricket Kama Sutra?

The guy won you game in Lanka, caught a blinder, but didn’t play again after 3 ODIs, where all did he bat then? And where all have you batted him in the IPL – think you gotta figure something here Mahi, Badri is possibly at his wits’ end, he lashed out at the selectors, don’t think he’s doing himself any favours here.

You can either make Badri work for you, or you can just dump him. It won’t be hard to dump him, he’ll be just another first class asset wasted. And then there’s always the strong logic that this was the era of Sachin, Rahul, VVS, Saurav. You know that’s a little lame. Just as it is to say that this will be the era of Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj, Raina, Rohit.

Open your eyes Mahi, who knows, you could open the selectors’ minds too. But before that, stick with him at 2 down. He just won you a game at that position, didn’t he?

And here’s something else to chew on Mahi, in the years to come, who will take the place Sachin, Rahul, VVS?

Dhoni is not the icon player :-)

Sachin, Rahul, VVS Replacements: Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara.

Point to be noted. Thanks Q!

Make MSD icon :)

Glad you included Pujara.

Even if not an *icon* in the official sense, Dhoni is CSK'S icon in every other sense. :-D

Other than that, agreed! Badri would be better off where he batted this game.

It always seemed to me like Dhoni backs Balaji pretty much in a way he backs Raina or an RP or a PK, so I'm not sure about the South-North preferences here. And isn't the very fact that he's refused to drop Badri despite poor starts and started promoting him in an effort for him to find form and place in the batting order a sign that he IS actually backing Badri and giving him a realistic chance to succeed?

Are my sentences the size of China? Yeah, it's a birth defect.

Hi Maithreyi,
China's still good, russia would have rankled

Right on the IPL front, he's still there, but they sent quite a few guys back, inc Vidyut who opened last year. If they drop Badri from the IPL XI they'll have to pass off a firang as a desi - who else is there?

But i really have a prob with the batting order fluctuations - happened in the 3 ODIs he played, imagine that, 3 ODIs so far. Then there's Rohit Sharma, who arguably has Badri's spot, he too is tossed around bad. It’s a MSD thing, now he’s caught the bug himself.

This guy should be playing 2 down, min 25 ODIs, or at least 4 series, whichever is more. Better still, get him into the test team.

Badri is being wasted, He has been given very less opportunities. Considering his technique Rohit Sharma has been given a lot of chances in ODIs. Except couple of games, he couldnt grab the opportunity. I think Badri should be given to bat up the order as MSD himself is struggling in this season of IPL.

Wowie... Happy that someone has my thoughts... definite bias in that scumbum Dhoni... He praised Parthiv for his batting so much that I wanted to puke.
