What good is a firang captain for desi cricket?

Good: Look at how much the kids will learn under Warnie, Gilli, KP.
Bad: But Pathan, Munaf, Rohit only rock in the IPL, should we include their captains in the national side as their nannies?

Good: They’re great for business and the ads, and we can gush all day about Warnie’s captaincy, look what he did with a bullshit team, and when they got even more bullshit, he still threatened to sneak the semis. And what a rock n roll heart.
Bad: What was it called, KP?

Good: When VVS was downsized, was that an opportunity to ask Rohit Sharma (allegedly the next SRT) to step up and take the reins?
Bad: What about RR, who would they have made captain?
Good: Why, is Ravindra Jadeja too young?

Bad: Franchise interest is not consistent with Indian cricket. Given a chance, they would remove the firang ceiling. That makes me hit the roof.
Good: Should they not decrease the firang ceiling – and if a team does not want to field 4 firangs to hell with them, but yeah, 4 is the limit.

Going into the semis with one firang captain, and three desis. And how I'd like DC to go down. If not tomorrow, then on Sunday. And I like Gilli.

Last year we started with 1 firang captain (Warne) and 7 desi ones.

And ended with 3 firang captains (Warne, Pollock, Gilli) and 5 desi ones.

This year we started with 4 firang captains (Warne, Gilli, KP, McCullum) and 4 desi ones.

And ended with 3 firangs (Warne, Gilli, McCullum) and 5 desis.

If the pattern holds, we're on our way to decreasing firang captains.

the ipl seems to serve already as pointer to indian cricket...let it be full fledged field...where we can groom, watch and judge future indian captains...

let warne, gilly mcgrath be mentors if for nothing then to sooth their egos...

The problem I see are the coaches... We should remove the firang coaches and then there will be no biased balance. I could be wrong as traditionally we love to lick white ass.

Q, last year a firang won it, this year a firang can win it again. pattern could be go for crack former aussie players, who's left after gilli and warnie?

Allan Border, Mark Taylor, Steve Waugh - maybe not as captains but as mentors, coaches, who knows

SP, ipl could be ideal for grooming, but there is this no small differnce, the ipl is showbiz cricket - and then put a Rohit Sharma against a Gilli commanding his troops and blasting the enemies'

scorpi, think this is very doable. with DDD i've always felt their selections have been flawed, and I wonder how much say the soft spoken, easy gng Sehwag has - yet in spite of this they topped the table.

But I really wonder abt DD's call to push Vettori and Warner, break the GG-Sehwag pair, it's obvious they can't bat without each other. Shepherd is way too overrated.

Sehwag has done better at 1 down than opening in the IPL... I think its better for him... although it was like opening today..

if fIP is to be believed, S Waugh joins KKR next year..

Sure, he had a bummer IPL opening, and y'day fired at 1 down. Still I would have thought Warner did his job, helped play Sehwag into form, and needed to either move 1 down or be dropped - how many openers do u need to change a light bulb?

Viru is too much of a nice guy. He should learn from Sachin or even from SMG, think abt yrself first, the opening is key in a limited overs game.

In the larger scheme of things where does this leave India's future captaincy?

Viru's VC right now, Yuvi was before. The IPL has shown that both may not be good enough choices. Yuvi definitely not.. Viru maybe but ur right hes too soft like Sachin hence will not make good captain.

Whose next then? Should they start grooming now?

Luckily Dhoni's still in his mid 20s.

it could be gambhir, early to say anything about him but he seems like a more nervy viru. I like Raina's energy but he gotta be a test regular first.

Raina's in as soon as one of Laxman, Dravid, and Sachin move on...

Zaheer Khan? I reckon he cud be a great one.

Q, Zaheer's worth a think. He's not an angry young man anymore. Hayden's long retired, and Z was one of the reasons.

I wonder if the B can get beyond the batsman as captain hangover - Zaks to Viru anyday. Strange why he isn't vc?

I'm sure Zak's got some anger left in him somewhere..

Well, a firang captain won the cup last year in IPL 08. A firang captain is going to win it today in IPL 09 as well. They call him Gilly. Adam Gilchrist is his name. Yes, they are THAT GOOD :-)
